DOCK invited us to create the furniture for its new workspace and infopoint on Eslin Street in Ampelokipoi, where they provide support to organizations and ventures active in the field of social and solidarity economy. The very limited financial budget of the team and the small and narrow layout of the space forced some concessions regarding the isolation of functions and the extent of the equipment, especially since extensive operations were not possible.

We decided to create a sequence of spaces where the most specialized services and private functions succeed the most general and public: the reception for information and briefing, the offices for work and personal meetings, the “round” table for group meetings and presentations. Between the three spaces we developed partitions that function as shelves and cabinets. The partitions are transparent in the first case and translucent (glass) in the second, following the succession from extroversion to introversion.

The furniture design uses metal L-sections, birch plywood and pine boards to create modular structures that are assembled with simple tools and are easily transported, both in the event of a future removal and during production, reducing overall costs. The choice of industrial elements with limited processing and their simple assemblage into a final original product, attempt to capture the aesthetics of collaboration and horizontal economy that represent DOCK’s philosophy.
